All fourth-graders in a Minnesota school district learn how to play chess to help improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students learn the history of the game, the moves each piece can make, strategy and critical thinking, skills that can help them improve achievement across subjects. "They are much better students after playing chess. We like to say Burnsville is a chess-literate district," teacher Brian Ribnick said.
