Community health centers are prepared to handle increased numbers of Medicaid patients who are newly insured via the Affordable Care Act, said Gary Wiltz, M.D., of the National Association of Community Health Centers. Federally qualified health centers already see many uninsured patients who may qualify for Medicaid, and community centers are targeted to get a $700 million increase in federal funding this year, about half of which will go toward building additional clinics and expanding services at existing centers.
