Research presented at the World Diabetes Congress showed type 2 diabetes diagnosis before age 50 was tied to higher odds of microvascular conditions including kidney and eye diseases, indicating that disease duration but not patient age contributes to such risks. However, both diabetes duration and patient age were associated with an increased risk of macrovascular complications such as stroke, myocardial infarction and all-cause mortality, researchers said.
