Experts warn that the strong growth has prompted some regulatory concerns and that such advisors should expect more scrutiny. The Securities and Exchange Commission has made these advisors part of its 2014 examination program. Among its concerns: "reverse churning," in which brokerage firms trade infrequently in fee-based accounts.
