Harvard University researchers were able to block HoxA1, a specific gene strongly associated with breast cancer, when they injected mice with an RNA agent. The treatment could potentially block the effects of genes that predispose women to certain breast cancers and reduce or eliminate the need for such invasive treatments as mastectomies. The findings appeared in the journal Science Translational Medicine.
