Higher temperatures in homes, hospitals and offices may contribute to excess weight as they promote comfort and may signal the body that it no longer needs to burn more calories to keep warm, Dutch researchers wrote in Trends in Endocrinology and Metabolism. However, other research showed people who live in homes with higher temperatures tend to be slimmer in part due to lower appetite levels and food consumption.
