Colleges and universities must be sincere in their efforts to recruit minority faculty, according to a panel of black scholars who spoke at the recent annual meeting of the Association of American Colleges and Universities. The scholars said schools must recognize the value of minority faculty and work to make them feel welcome. "It's not just about doing what it takes," said Ivory Toldson, deputy director of the White House Initiative of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, "but the department doing what it takes to attract different kinds of talent."
