Lenovo Group says it will acquire the x86-based server business of IBM for $2.3 billion in cash and stock. The agreement includes BladeCenter and Flex System blade servers and switches, Flex integrated systems, NeXtScale and iDataPlex servers, and System x servers. "The acquisition presents a unique opportunity for the company to gain immediate scale and credibility in this market," Lenovo said. IDC's Rajnish Arora said that "as long as they can think differently, I think [Lenovo] will become formidable competition in the server space."
