Cellphone service was reportedly overwhelmed by the crisis, leaving radio stations as the lone information source for many of the stranded and their families, local radio execs say. "Those people trapped in their car all night long weren't listening to Pandora. Radio was a lifeline," said Jeff Brown, Atlanta market manager for Cumulus Media.
