Coffee lovers in Britain have boosted sales of hot beverage machines by 67% over the past five years, according to Mintel, with some 14% now owning coffee pod machines. The sale of food processors, blenders and other food preparation gadgets rose 21% from 2008 to 2013. "Despite the economic gloom that has shrouded consumers in the last five years we have seen significant demand for coffee machines and food mixers," said Mintel's Jane Westgarth.
