A group of elementary-school students in Tennessee will use their math, geometry, engineering, reading and language skills to build a wheelchair ramp for a local resident. Students will review applications from residents and design and build the ramp with support from local college students. "It makes it relevant to their life," principal Jill Ramsey said, adding, "It kind of gives them a reason to want to learn. That's what we are trying to do is make the standards relevant to their lives."
