"Watchful waiting" may be best for patients who experience fevers within a week of transcatheter aortic valve replacement, according to a study published in the American Journal of Cardiology. Nearly half of the 140 patients studied experienced febrile episodes despite prophylactic antibiotic treatment before undergoing the procedure, according to the study. However, researchers at the Tel-Aviv Medical Center in Israel determined that infections requiring further antibiotic treatment were rare.
