A study in the American Journal of Managed Care conducted by researchers from the Mayo Clinic showed that telestroke services enhance patient outcomes and boost the delivery of quality emergency stroke care at remote hospitals. The research also showed that the Mayo Clinic's telestroke platform cut the cost of care throughout the network of hospitals that used the system. "The results serve to inform government organizations, insurers, health care institutions, practitioners, patients and the general public that an upfront investment in telemedicine and stroke network personnel can be justified in our health system," said Dr. Bart Demaerschalk, director of the Mayo Clinic Telestroke Program.
