Syfy hopes to use its new "Helix" drama series as a building block for its scripted programming. The series' 90-minute debut attracted nearly 11 million viewers for its first airing and a subsequent 24-hour marathon. "You can tell good adult stories in the genre," said Bill McGoldrick, Syfy's executive vice president of original content. "The pitches I'm hearing ... people are approaching [us] as seriously as they would HBO."
