A Department of Veterans Affairs clinic in Miami has successfully used research-based methods to treat veterans with Gulf War illness, which affects some 25% of the 697,000 Persian Gulf War veterans. However, the treatments have not spread throughout the VA health system, clinic Dr. Nancy Klimas told a VA panel that included new members. Some physicians believe that Gulf War illness is solely psychiatric, and others lack time to read a manual on caring for Gulf War veterans, Klimas said.
