Staff and faculty who work with youth on campus at the University of Michigan will now undergo background checks and follow standard guidelines implemented by the college earlier this week. The new regulations have been in the works for two years. "The most important thing that we've tried to do is centralize and coordinate so that everyone is operating with the same information and expectations," said Donika Thomas Varner, an attorney for the college and co-chair of the steering committee that developed the new policy.
