Images from a CT scan were used to quickly produce a $600 3D-printed model of an infant's heart that improved the child's odds by allowing a chance practice before open-heart surgery. "I found the model to be a game changer in planning to do surgery on a complex congenital heart defect," said cardiac surgeon Erle Austin III of the Kosair Children's Hospital.
