High-school students in Alabaster, Ala., who are interested in becoming involved in the community have an opportunity to serve on city Mayor Marty Handlon's new 12-member Alabaster Teen Council. The panel will be made up of ninth- through 11th-graders from area schools who will plan events for young people in the city and interact with City Council members, who will mentor the students. "It's been a big passion of mine since I took office. I've always said we've got to have more positive things for our teenagers to get involved in," Handlon said.
