Point-of-care ultrasound for children with suspected appendicitis can shorten emergency room wait time, reduce radiation exposure by eliminating the need for a CT scan and accurately identify appendicitis, according to a study published in Academic Emergency Medicine. The study of 150 children found that 50 children were correctly diagnosed with appendicitis using ultrasound exam in the emergency room, and follow-up showed that no cases of appendicitis were missed.
