In 2012, 64% of people with hypertension had their blood pressure under control, CDC researchers wrote in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. The number is a "modest" improvement, but it falls short of HHS' goal of 70% under the Million Hearts campaign. "An estimated 46,000 deaths could be avoided annually if 70 percent of patients with high blood pressure were treated according to published guidelines," according to a team led by CDC's Milesh Patel.
