The American Dental Association has recommended that parents of children younger than 3 years should use a rice grain-size smear of fluoride toothpaste, instead of waiting until age 2 to begin brushing their baby teeth with fluoride. The updated guidelines, published in the Journal of the American Dental Association, support the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
