The University of California, San Francisco's Health eHeart study aims to enroll a million participants to study heart disease using biometric data, periodic surveys, electronic medical records and genetic data. Data will be collected daily using smartphone-connected health devices and apps, and could transform research, experts said. The study has hit a few problems, including confusion among potential participants about whether they are eligible, informed consent concerns and struggles to retain participants over the 10-year study period.
