An Iowa school district is hoping to attract top teachers by using a grant from the state Department of Education to establish a leadership program for educators. If the district is awarded the $1.98 million, officials say they plan to include 56 model teachers, who would help other educators learn, plus lead teachers and instructional coaches. The program aims "to attract and retain promising new teachers, to increase collaboration among teachers and to reward professional growth and effective teaching in the classroom," said Brad Hurst, co-president of the Johnston Community School District Education Association.
