MediaTek has raised the ante in the fight among eight-core processor providers for Long-Term Evolution smartphones. The Taiwanese chipmaker hopes to crack the U.S. and European markets with its MT6595 chip featuring eight processing cores that include four of ARM's latest A17 designs. Mediatek wants to embed its chips in higher-end LTE phones after succeeding with budget Android handsets in emerging markets.
