Sixth-grade social studies students at La Crescent Middle School in Minnesota recently worked with hip-hop artist and educator Kyle "Guante" Tran Myhre for a week of writing exercises in which they expressed their views on social topics such as homelessness and bullying, and then explored the issues from other perspectives. Teacher Nicki Johnson said the idea was to have the students explore social changes of the past and present. "We're trying to have them take that history and then push it into what their lives are like now -- what change you'd like to see in your life or in our world right now," Johnson said.
