A study in the British Journal of Ophthalmology revealed coronary arterial stiffness was associated with blood flow disruptions in the ocular blood vessels in type 2 diabetes patients. Researchers also noted that diabetic retinopathy was tied to impaired blood flow within the central retinal artery in diabetes patients with coronary artery disease. However, researchers did not observe a link between diabetic retinopathy and blood flow disruptions in the ophthalmic and posterior ciliary arteries.
