What are the reasons for institutionalization of those with dementia in Europe? The RightTimePlaceCare Consortium interviewed 786 informal caregivers in eight European countries to answer this question. Most responded that it was patient reasons (neuropsychiatric symptoms, care dependency and cognition), but because there are a wide variety of reasons given between different countries, it's difficult to find a one-size-fits-all guideline for informal caregivers when trying to decide about institutionalization for their situation.
