The carcass of a 5-foot, or 1.5-meter, jellyfish found by a family walking on a beach in Tasmania is a new species that the scientific community has known about but has yet to classify. It is part of the Lion's Mane group, according to researchers at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization. Researchers are keen to find out more about the new species as well as why a recent influx of jellyfish are showing up in Tasmanian waters.
