Seth Guikema, an assistant professor of geography and engineering at Johns Hopkins University, is leading research designed to model the potential impact of natural disasters. The project, fueled by a $3 million grant from the National Science Foundation, could allow planners to evaluate how land-use decisions would play out once a storm strikes. "It's kind of like Sim City on steroids," Guikema said.
