An analysis of data on more than 4,000 adults treated at hospitals for severe injuries found that those with Medicaid or private insurance were transferred to trauma centers at lower rates than those without health coverage. Research has shown that treatment in facilities specializing in trauma care improves survival, and experts said too many trauma patients are still treated at community hospitals. The findings appear in the journal JAMA Surgery.
