Australian fruit growers welcomed the news that processor SPC Ardmona had signed a five-year supply deal with retailer Woolworths, but some say the $70 million contract alone isn't enough to sustain the business long term. "At least now they are selling into supermarkets at roughly break even, but of course in the long-term that isn't sustainable either. They've got to return a profit," said fourth-generation grower Gary Godwill.
