Doc Popcorn has opened 86 franchise units nationwide since it was founded in 2003 and operates a variety of franchise formats, such as PopCarts, PopKiosks and PopShops, CEO Rob Israel said. The chain, which plans to open 500 locations in the next five years, sources kernels domestically, and its popcorn boasts natural and gluten-free ingredients without trans fat or cholesterol. "We felt that there's a commodity product, popcorn, that has not been done fantastically. We can do it better, we can do it more awesomely, and so we felt there was an opportunity to really grow that business," Israel said.
