Increased efficiency in horizontal drilling has bolstered production in growth shale formations in the U.S., according to the Energy Information Administration. Oil output in the Eagle Ford Shale was the highest among the plays, while the Marcellus Shale beat the others in terms of natural gas production, EIA said. Meanwhile, the agency noted a decline in oil and gas production in the Permian Basin.
