Children in the U.K. who speak English as an additional language outperformed their native English speaking peers on General Certificate of Secondary Education exams in 2013, Department for Education data show. The non-English speakers also earned higher grades in English Baccalaureate subjects. This development could be reflective of an increase in students taking foreign language exams, on which non-native speakers often perform well.
