Blackstone Group has succeeded in attracting more gamblers to the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas with higher bet limits of $200,000. The company acquired the casino on the Las Vegas Strip at the end of 2014, and casino revenue climbed 13% for the first nine months of 2015. "We're a unique luxury brand with a twist," said Bill McBeath, president and CEO of the Cosmopolitan.
A growing number of airlines and hotels are hustling hard just to get travelers to sleep, in some cases hiring sleep professionals to provide services. A full night's sleep is the hottest new amenity, and the travel industry is purveying everything from reminders to turn off devices to providing soothing skin oil and high-tech bedding to improve slumber. "It's the holy grail for hospitality," said Dana Kalczak, vice president of design for Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.
A study by the Global Business Travel Association titled "The U.S. Business Travel Industry: Road Warriors' Impact on Jobs and the Economy" found that corporate travel played a significant role in improving the U.S. economy, accounting for $491 billion -- or 3% -- of the country's gross domestic product in 2012. The study also found that 452 million business trips were made in 2012, with corporate expenditures on travel amounting to $384 billion.
In a report to Congress, the Transportation Security Administration has identified significant steps for improving safety and security after last year’s shooting at Los Angeles International Airport. Recommendations include increased police presence at TSA checkpoints, physical enhancements such as alarms, additional training and communication improvements.
MGM Resorts International has deployed a new group booking technology at its Las Vegas hotels, which allows guests to make online reservations from any Internet browser or mobile device. "With a collection of 11 world-renowned resorts on the Las Vegas Strip, it is important we provide our customers with a booking technology that exceeds their expectations," said Richard Harper, executive vice president of sales and marketing for MGM.
