Cat in carrier box

Most dogs tolerate physical exams well, writes veterinarian Christie Long, but some cats can be so aggressive during exams that sedation is necessary for the protection of veterinary staff as well as the cat. Dr. Long recommends sedation be tailored to the individual case, taking into consideration what is known about the cat's health and the procedures that need to be completed. Any sedated animal should be monitored, and using a sedative that can be reversed once the procedure is over is best, Dr. Long writes.
