You can use certain tactics to make sure your point of view is heard and respected if you're the only woman on your work team, writes Jean Yang, a doctoral candidate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Among Yang's tips are to get used to asserting yourself in conversation, to act with confidence and to eliminate vocal habits that may be undermining your credibility. "Take note of upward intonation and trailing off at the ends of sentences; take note of excessive use of 'like' and 'um,' " she recommends.
