Educators in an Illinois school district are warning students and their parents about a new, popular social media application, called Yik Yak, that allows users to connect with others nearby and post anonymously on live feeds. "The problem, as you might imagine, is that the anonymity is empowering certain individuals to post comments about others that are hurtful, harassing and sometimes quite disturbing," Joe Ruggiero, head of the Upper School at Francis W. Parker School, wrote in an e-mail to parents last week.
