A study that looked at seven emergency departments in Rochester, N.Y., found access to patient data via health information exchange could improve care and reduce unneeded admissions. "Our study shows that providing physicians, nurses and allied health care professionals such as [physician] assistants real-time access to communitywide, longitudinal health records does in fact benefit patients," said Dr. Joshua Vest, who led the study.
