Today's hospitality landscape is markedly different from what it looked like in the 1960s -- with technology allowing faster communications with customers and operations shifting to a more global, guest-oriented approach, said Michael Leven, president and chief operating officer of Las Vegas Sands, a hotel veteran of more than 50 years and recent recipient of AH&LA's lifetime achievement award. Leven, whose contract is scheduled to end in December, said he intends to remain involved with the company in a decision-making role.
