People who participated in a yearlong cardiovascular risk reduction program lost weight and reduced levels of cholesterol and blood pressure, compared with a control group, while also showing positive molecular changes linked to better vascular health, researchers reported in the journal Circulation: Cardiovascular Genetics. Dr. Darrell Ellsworth of the Windber Research Institute said 143 genes had significant changes in expression and most were being down-regulated, which could indicate decreasing vascular inflammation.
