Most patients use a search engine to find a health care provider and are not likely to search using the new .health domain, but buying one might be of value to providers as a way to preempt misleading information, says Tim Mackey, an investigator at the San Diego Center for Patient Safety. Four companies are competing for rights to market .health domains, and they are likely to be more focused on profit than on validation, Mackey says. Forthcoming domains such as .doctor, .medical and .surgery are likely to be more tightly regulated and, therefore, more valuable, Mackey says.
