Daily consumption of peanuts will help reduce blood pressure and cholesterol, a recent Purdue University study found. At the end of the 12-week study, participants with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease had significantly lowered their cholesterol, triglycerides and diastolic blood pressure after eating 0.5 ounce of peanuts per day. Researchers suspect that peanuts' arginine content helps increase the production of nitric oxide, which can lower blood pressure.
