Among 17,446 pediatric kidney transplant recipients, survival rates improved from 78% in 1987 to 91% in 2001, according to a study published in the journal Pediatrics. The 10-year survival rate of the kidneys themselves rose from 47% in 1987 to 60% in 2001, researchers said. In addition, there has been a lower percentage of poorly or delayed functioning kidneys in recent years.
