Russia's invasion of Crimea should prompt the U.S. to approve the Keystone XL pipeline to strengthen its energy security, said Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D. "In Ukraine, we saw a people fighting for freedom, but frustrated and fearful in their aspirations because of their energy dependence on Russia. ... We can avoid that in the United States by recommitting to our dynamic trade relationship with Canada, our closest friend and ally and our largest trading partner," he said. Building the pipeline will benefit both the U.S. and Canada in terms of trade, economy and national security, Hoeven said.
