All students attending the City of Leeds School in the U.K., where less than a quarter of the students speak English as a first language, soon will spend an additional 50 minutes each week learning about fundamental English skills. Headteacher Georgiana Sale said the change seeks to meet the needs of second language speakers and the needs of first language speakers who are struggling. "We are proud to be a multicultural school and will continue to encourage new ideas to help us to be a supportive and encouraging learning environment where all pupils are given the same chances to learn," Sale said.
