A study in the journal Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology found that health care professionals have varying definitions for the term "multidrug resistant," as well as varying isolation practices. The survey of members from the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America found 14 unique definitions for multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter, for example. Researchers concluded that these variations can greatly affect the success of infection control efforts.
