A study of more than 1,400 patients with an average age of 80 showed those who had developed type 2 diabetes from age 40 to 64 showed smaller brains and hippocampi than patients without diabetes. Researchers also found those who had diabetes were more likely to suffer micro-strokes in the brain and thinking and memory problems compared with the nondiabetes arm. The results appear in Neurology.
