Infants who were given probiotics over the first three months of life cried less and had fewer episodes of regurgitation and constipation, compared with babies who got a placebo, Italian researchers reported. Dr. Ari Brown commented it takes time for newborns to develop gut flora in their intestines that can aid digestion so "it makes sense that babies may benefit from receiving probiotics" until that happens.
