Teachers increasingly are using social media, including Twitter and blogs, as classroom tools, but effective use of 21st-century technology also means teaching visual literacy, writes Dave Guymon, an online middle-school teacher. In this blog post, he writes about visual literacy in the form of Instagram, Emoji and memes. He notes that students may be familiar with viewing and responding to memes, but asking them to create a meme based on academic lessons would create new skills.
